Arkham City is another great Batman game from Rocksteady, giving you more of those Batman baddies to beat on and vastly improving the combat so that when you take on gangs of enemies you truly feel like the Bat. New gadgets and sleek skill tree make leveling up Batman a little more interesting than the previous game. The huge over arching story does a really good job tying a bunch of the Batman Villains together, making for an interesting story.
While Dead Space 2 is a little more action focused than the first game, I still enjoyed playing it and found all the crazy set pieces to make for a very epic and grand adventure. The addition of new characters and giving Isaac Clark a voice, I think allowed the story to unfold a lot better and make you feel more connected to what is going on, which in turn makes for a more startling game.
It has been a long time since I have sunk so many hours into a fighting game, especially when I’m the only one playing it. Mortal Kombat is a game changing fighter, the campaign mode of the game in particular deserves props for doing a great job at telling a story and seamlessly integrating the fights into the cut scenes. That combined with the challenge tower that gave me hours upon hours of fun and challenging obstacles to overcome make for my favorite fighter of the year.
Okay I know this isn’t everyone’s thing but hey Disgaea 4, much like the others, is a funny and more often than not ridiculous game that tickles my funny bone in all the right places. Now the other reason I love this game is the crazy numbers and outrageous tactics involved for a Tactics RPG. Disgaea 4 doesn’t take much of a departure from what the previous games have set in place but it has streamlined a few of the more cumbersome things I didn’t care for in the older titles. Just give it a try if you like Tactic RPGs or made Japanese things. You might actually have fun.
Dark Souls pulls no punches and does absolutely no hand holding. This game wants you to work for everything and learn from your mistakes. I can understand that for most people you wouldn’t want to play a game that punishes you so much. I just find it really entertaining now-a-days that I can play a game that wants me to work for what I get and not have tutorials and helpful tips all over the place to hand hold me and make me feel like I’m a winner. It makes the times when I do accomplish things that much more meaningful to me.
I have to say that Bulletstorm really put a lot of fun back into first person shooters. All the crazy ways to murder dudes in this game give me plenty of reason to be as bad ass as possible and have fun doing it. At first this game seemed to be pretty shallow to me but the characters at some point start to show their depth and the story starts to unfold and turn into a decent story. This all being said, man do I want Greyson Hunt as a speech coach, that guy knows how to curse.
If Portal 2 taught me anything it’s that if life gives you lemons, burn life’s house down. The amazing puzzles combined with all the new characters and their dialog make Portal 2 a worth wile sequel to the already great game that was portal. The added multiplayer levels are also more interesting and funnier than I might have expected them to be.
Oh boy where to start. There is a ton of stuff to do in Skyrim. I mean I spent 40 hours playing this game before I even started to touch the main story. I spent 20 hours probably just collecting books. There is so much content it is really easy to get lost in the world of Skyrim, but really isn’t that what you come to expect from a Bethesda game at this point?
Bastion does so many interesting and new things, the art, the narration, the music. The art in this game is impeccable, with bright colors and an art style that looks like an oil painting in motion, looking at this game is easily one of the more impressive points. The dialog given by the narrator is flawless. For practically everything you do in Bastion the narrator has something to say and does a fantastic job of telling a story to you all without distracting you from combat. Completely original music that I loved so much I went and bought it on iTunes, what more do I have to say? Bastion is an all around great game.
Strap it on. Saints Row the Third is ridiculous and amazing. It does so many things that seem out of left field and yet it manages to stay grounded in reality enough that things don’t seem stupid for the sake of being stupid. Saints Row performs an amazing juggling act of the norm and the absurd and it’s pretty hard to talk about it without spoiling some of the best parts. You should probably just go play Saints Row the Third.
